This film tells the true story of prominent mathematician John Forbes Nash, Jr. The brilliant but arrogant professor Nash seems guaranteed a bright future after he marries beautiful student Alicia and makes a remarkable advancement in "game theory," which takes him to the brink of international acclaim. But when he is recruited by a CIA agent to provide assistance to the military with top-secret code-breaking duties, the stress of Nash's demanding new covert activities turns him into a paranoid schizophrenic. Battling decades of illness with the loyal Alicia by his side, Nash is ultimately able to recover his mental health and eventually goes on to triumphantly win the Nobel Prize.
"Physically powerful but often unstable, clear-eyed but with head in uncharted territory, bashful but capable of surprising outbursts, and gentle but dangerous, Crowe's Nash is a complete creation, a strange and complicated individual rendered palatable and fascinating."
Todd McCarthy, Variety
