A HELL OF A DAY REINES D'UN JOUR

France, 2001, 91 min, color

Marie Larue, 24 years old, works in a photo shop. Things start off badly: a positive pregnancy test, her moped stolen, an ugly firing from a job, a bad haircut. Things are going no better for the forty-year-old Luis Del Sol, a bus driver who has been left by his wife. Hortense, 33 years old, mother of two children, does her best to organize a business trip for her husband so she can betray him with another. The sixty-year-old Maurice, alcoholic and former cook, prepares to meet Marlene, the great love of his youth.
"Marie Larue spends her days watching fragments of life parade by her. Who are they? What are the lives of those in the photos? To reach through the mirror to them, tell the story of a day in their lives. Beginning with a cliche - a wedding snapshot - to dig into their secrets. To bring together the opposites and annoyed. Like a collage, trying to realize our most intimate miseries, the ones that make us laugh when we look back on them but at the moment bring out compassion."
