Darlene is married to three men, Osias, Zezinho and Ciro. They all reside in the same house in Russas, an impoverished, barren and remote village in the north of Brazil. Darlene first married one man. But he was not exactly to her liking. Then she met his cousin and married him, as well. To make her new husband jealous, the first husband brought in a third candidate, and Darlene married him, too.
"I think this situation happens in that region because it is so remote, so isolated. There is no point of view of society over them, and that's how it was possible for this situation to occur. During two months of rehearsal, we improved the script to clarify which story we were telling, because it could have been a comedy. That was not what I wanted. By the time we started shooting, everyone was looking for the same picture."
