An Italian theater company on tour across Europe comes to Paris to stage Pirandello's "As You Desire Me". Camille is the leading actress and companion to Ugo, the stage director. She secretly fears meeting Pierre whose passion threatened to stifle her calling. Ugo also has his secret. Coming to Paris is a chance for him to verify the existence of an unpublished manuscript by the great Goldoni. This search will lead him to the seductive Dominique. Passions will rise. Each will have to face the truth, and the theater, once again, will serve as both a setting and as a means of revelation.

"At the age of 73, Jacques Rivette remains true to himself. Who Knows? is an entrancing ensemble piece, directed with calm assurance, acted by a fine ensemble. Rivette takes his own sweet time to unfold these romantic adventures which, as always in his films, involve cultured, witty, literate characters. It's a joy to watch and listen to such sophisticated material handled with such ease.
