| Chinese director, born in 1952. Son of Tian Fang, who was head of the Peking Film Studio. He worked as assistant cameraman. In 1978 he was admitted to the film academy of Beijing, where he formed the so-called Fifth Generation with the future filmmakers Chen Kaige, Zhang Yimou, Peng Xiaolan and Wu Ziniu. Spingtime in a Small Town is his first film since almost a decade. His previous movie, The Blue Kite, was banned in China. |
