A Godforsaken train station somewhere in the vast expanses of Russia. Home to Natalia and her husband, a linesman who works the points for the bypass route. They are the only human souls far and wide. Then her husband dies unexpectedly, and she inherits a yard full of small livestock and a surprising amount of cash.
So begins this poetic tale of a young woman suddenly awakened to life after long years of a hermetic existence with a man she never loved, trapped in the loneliness typical to unhappy couples. Her husband had taken her away from the children's home where she grew up, and his world was the only one she got to know after her marriage at 16. She now has to negotiate her way through a new planet full of temptations and pressures, possibilities and constraints. Love enters her life after she meets young Sergey. But in this relationship, too, she must still decide what is really important to her...
The talented young stage actress Xenia Kutepova delivers a brilliant performance in this elegant and sensitive screen debut, impressively conveying the metamorphosis of the young woman on her way to discovering herself. A psychologically finely nuanced and beautifully photographed film about a woman.
